Welcome back to another great week of Pre-K!

This week we are learning about the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

We switched our schedule around a bit so we could make it outside for the rain.  :)

We found a nest outside!

During small group time we practiced writing numbers in shaving cream with Mrs. Dohrman.  We learned some fun poems to help us remember how to form numbers when writing. Adding the sensory experience with the shaving cream helps solidify this in the friends' minds.

Independently, the friends strengthened their fine motor skills by making birds out of play dough.

I worked with the friends one on one to complete our final formal assessments for the year.

Free choice time

"There are two green and three purple!  Put them together and it is five!"

Block creations

We observed a new type of bird on our feeders!

One of the friends helped us start a prayer wall!

The friends worked to write prayer requests on notecards. They worked to sound out the words of their prayer requests, and added them to the prayer wall.

Making letters out of play dough

After rest time, we had a discussion about what things fly.  We wondered why some things fly and others don't.  We also wondered how things fly?  This questions can drive our learning as we progress in our Project!

"How many days left until the eggs hatch?"

"We can't count the ones that have X's on them because those are done."

This is a great opportunity to practice counting with one to one correspondence while applying reasoning in a meaningful way!

The friends used a level to check to see if their buildings are level.

Writing notes for our friends is a great way to engage in meaningful writing practice.

Collaborative puzzle work

During small group time the friends continued to strengthen their fine motor skills by making birds with the play dough.

With Mrs. Helmkamp, the friends practiced important phonemic awareness skills. Research shows that children with strong phonemic awareness skills tend to be strong readers as well.

With me, we continued the discussion of why things fly.  I webbed the friends throughout our discussion.  The goal of the web is to identify how we can best adjust our activities throughout the coming weeks to address the friends' interest as well as questions.
