During Jesus time we discussed that we are all disciples of Jesus!  He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  We have a job to tell others about Jesus' love for us!

Outside time

During small group time the friends practiced writing numbers in birdseed.  Mrs. Dohrman helped us remember the poems that help us write our numbers!

The friends also made birds out of play dough.

They observed bird.  The friends are still very excited when they see birds outside of our window!

Yesterday afternoon the friends made another bird show.  We discussed how we could make our own bird show in school.  Today we saw a short video of a bird show. We discussed the things we want to do for our own bird show.

"We need to have popcorn!"

"And drinks!"

"Some one needs to be a bird."

"Ooo!  I could be a trainer!"

We then discussed and made a list of the jobs that each friend wants to do for the show.  Finally, we made a list of the birds that we want to be in our show.

It is important to capitalize on student interest so as to full engage their minds.

Free choice time

Children are able to show what they have learned in many different ways.  (We in early childhood education call it the 100 languages of children.). This friend did not have to verbalize her knowledge of patterns, she showed it through her creation!

"I am making a garage with cars that go in and out."

"We have to be sure the building is level before we add more or it will fall down!"

The friends worked on two puzzles at one time together!  Great job working collaboratively friends!

One of the friends wanted to make a paper bag for the popcorn for the bird show.  We looked at a brown paper bag to see if we could find any patterns that we could copy.  The friend worked very hard! Learning how to persist when things become frustrating is an important life skill.

We use many open ended materials to scaffold student learning through play.  This friend lined up corks on a mirror.

"I see twelve corks that I can touch and twelve corks in the mirror."

Open ended materials and loose parts empower children's creativity.  (Creative thinking is the highest level thinking skill according to the updated Bloom's Taxonomy.)

"It's time for the bird show!"

During morning meeting we read this book.

(Thank you Miller family!)

We had a discussion about other things that hatch from eggs.  I encourage you to discuss with your child at home the different animals and insects that hatch from eggs.  Rich discussions with children expand their vocabulary, increase language skills, and increase important social skills.

Second outside time

Writing words for the bird word wall

Practicing the show

During small group time we made a list of jobs for our afternoon preschool friends for the bird show. The friends used their knowledge of letter sounds to help write the words!
