Happy Week of the Young Child!

We praise God for young children and our program that helps children and families grow in the love and knowledge of Christ!

During Jesus time we practiced our song for when we sing in church on Sunday, April 29th.

We also celebrated Music Monday by singing some of our favorite worship songs!

To further celebrate Music Monday, Mr. Kyle Borcherding led us in some more fun praise and worship songs!  One of the friends asked, "Why is he using a penny to play the guitar?"  We discussed how he uses a guitar pick.  (In the classroom we discussed this further.)

Thank you Doug for helping this morning until Mrs. Dohrman came in!

During gym time we used giant dice as we played Mr. Fox Mr. Fox, a fun running game that increases counting and one to one correspondence!

During gym free play the friends worked to share the dice.  This is an important social skill that will benefit the friends throughout their lives!

When we returned from the gym, we saw a huge squirrel on our bird feeders!  The friends and I were upset and we discussed what we could do to keep the squirrels off of our bird feeders.

"We could make a sign!"

"Yeah, but maybe the squirrels can't read the sign.  Then we need to make a radio that speaks squirrel so that they know to stay away."

"Oh! We could make a big scary animal to scare the squirrels away!"

"We could make traps for the squirrels!"

"We could copy the bird feeders to trick the squirrels."

The friends set straight to work on their ideas to keep the squirrels off of our bird feeders.

Making signs for the squirrels

The friends were patient and shared the supplies with one another!

"I'm writing go away squirrels."

Working together to make traps

In the blocks, the friends were making a bird show.

"I see a parrot."

Our classroom is filled with print at the children's eye level.  This is intentional to expose the friends to print.

One of the friends taught a friend how to write "Go Away Squirrel". :)

To learn more about birds, and their life cycles, this week we will put our chicken eggs in an incubator!  During morning meeting we read this silly book about a chicken.  We discussed whether or not we thought our chicks (when/if they hatch) will be able to surf.

"No way!  This book is just pretend."

"I think no because our chicks will just be babies."

"I don't think chicks can swim, so I think no."

Second free choice time

Observing birds

(Notice the signs that the friends hung for the squirrels to stay away.  :) )

We started making our own nests.

During small group time we made shakers to celebrate Music Monday!

We then sang songs together and played our instruments!
