During chapel this morning we continued to celebrate Week of the Young Child with Mr. Kyle Borcherding leading chapel, and we sang fun songs!
He shared with us that we are all children of God!

After chapel, we went on a walk with our 8th grade buddies for work together Wednesday.  We handed out gloves for picking up trash and trash bags.  We worked together with our buddies to pick up trash around the school!

We noticed some bird footprints as we collected the trash!

Praise God for our beautiful earth!

Free choice time

Making a sign up sheet for the birdseed is a way we incorporate early writing, literacy, and math skills into our play!

The friends worked together to make a house for the stuffed owl.

"If you hold it, I can squeeze him in."

"I saw a red winged black bird!  I will add the tally mark for it."

"Welcome to the bird show!"

Repetition is an important part of learning.  As the friends repeat this same puzzle, they are also learning confidence in their skills!

Observing birds

"This is a hen - that is a girl chicken.  She's the one who lays the eggs."

During morning meeting we discussed what kind of bird we thought left the footprints outside.  We looked through a few books for ideas.  (This helps the friends understand one place that they can look for information.). We learned about birds' feet and talons!

On the way outside we noticed a large bird on a tree!  We were debating whether it was a hawk, owl, or falcon.

What do you think it is?

"I'm flying like a hawk!"

"We have to be careful with the eggs so that they will hatch!"

Bird observations

"How can this bird see?  He has no eyes!"

Making signs for the bird show

Wow!  Our block creations are becoming more intricate!

"The eggs are hatching!"

"Ah! One hatched!"

During small group time we took care of our school by picking up the trash we saw! This helps the friends learn responsibility and take ownership of our school building (and the messes inside).
