Friday, October 30

Happy Friday!

This morning we compared  a fake pumpkin and a real pumpkin.  The friends shared their observations of the pumpkins and how they are the same and how they are different.

It is pretty chilly in the mornings when we go outside.  Please be sure that your child has a coat for when we go outside.  We follow this guide when determining when to go outside and how long to stay outside.

The friends (and teachers :) ) were so excited to carve the pumpkins today!

We used our sense of smell to determine what the inside of the pumpkin smells like.

We then started working on our special pumpkin activities!

"My pumpkin is going to be a scary one."

"Scoop the goop!  Scoop the goop!"

The friends cut out pieces of felt to make their own pumpkin costume / cape!

Please check your child's backpack for the pumpkin cape.  Be careful as there is a safety pin pinning it together in the front and it may have come open in your child's bag.

Thursday, October 29

Mr. Joel Marquardt led our chapel today!  He shared with us that God is our refuge and strength!  He is a strong tower for us!

Back in the classroom we were all excited for pumpkin pie!

We reviewed the ingredients and the tools needed to make the pie.

We discussed that although we are using canned pumpkin today, sometimes we choose to bake a pumpkin and use that instead.

We used our sense of smell and expanded our vocabulary to describe what we smelled.

Does it smell spicy? Salty? Sweet?

We then took turns using one of the tools (a can opener) to open the can of milk.

We then took turns adding the spices!

We took turns using the mixer as well.  The friends helped us count so that everyone could have an equal amount of time.

Then, just like on a cooking show, the pre-prepared mix in bags were ready for us to squeeze into our pie crusts.

We took the pies down to the oven and played in the gym while they baked.

The friends practiced sharing the balls in the gym.  There weren't enough (intentionally) for each friend.  Our friends practiced how to ask for a ball, sharing, and taking turns.  These are all important social skills that will benefit the friends throughout their lives!

The friends are collaborating more and more in the blocks!

We take care of our classroom!
One of the friends noticed some paper on the floor and decided to sweep it up.

The friends practiced writing, counting, and using one to one correspondence as they made price tags for the pumpkins.

"The little ones are $2 because they are small."

"Come test my gate!  It is stabilized!"

Many friends expressed their creativity in the creation station today!

Here they are!  Our pies!

After lunch, we ate our pies!  Some of the friends like them and some did not.  We will make a graph tomorrow of who liked the pie and who did not.
