Pastor Lepley led chapel this morning.  He shared with us that the only way to repel the devil and his schemes is to be in the Word!  God's word is powerful!  We are reminded that our Savior is immensely more powerful than the devil and his schemes !

We also celebrated April baptism birthdays!  If you are interested in learning more about baptism and/or having your child baptized, please come speak with me or one of the Pastors here at Our Shepherd!

Mrs. Borcherding, the chicken egg expert, came to our class today to help us look inside the eggs in the incubator to see the growing chicks!  We learned that inside the egg is an air sack for the chicks to be able to breath once they begin hatching.  The friends learned that one resource for learning is learning from other people, like Mrs. Borcherding!

She took the friends to the bathroom, the darkest room available, and put a flashlight under the egg.  The friends were able to see the growing chick and the air sack!

(The black dot inside the egg is the growing chick.)

The friends drew what they observed and dictated what they noticed about the eggs.  Drawing what we see is a way we incorporate writing skills.  It also provides insight as to what the children are thinking.  This insight helps us adjust our learning environment and experiences to address questions and misconceptions.

During free choice time, the friends worked to write a "Bird Word Wall."

They added words that we have learned throughout the project including habitat and life cycle.  This expands our vocabulary as well as increases early literacy skills.

The friends apply cognitive reasoning and critical thinking skills as they observe!

"I think that bird is a baby because it is small."

"I think that birds have good eyesight because every time I get close, they fly away.  They must have good eyesight."

"Okay then the loader takes the boxes and pushes them off.  Can you push the box off?"

Our friends are creative and they are learning to work together!  These skills will impact them throughout their lives!

"I am making a graph to see who wants to be in the bird show."

"I made birds sitting on a perch."

Hurray!  Spring is here!

We enjoyed the beautiful weather outside during second outside time.

One of the friends found a long stem and wondered, "How long is this thing?"

We took it inside to measure it!  This was a great opportunity to practice measuring skills and number recognition.

During second free choice time the friends put on an elaborate bird show!

They had to use the social skills we have learned as they collaborated and practiced waiting for their turn to speak.
