Welcome back to another great week of school!

This morning during Jesus time we learned about Peter and Rhoda's surprise!  We learned that sometimes we forget to trust in God and pray to Him when we have problems.  Our powerful God cares for us and can rescue us from danger, even from sin, death, and the devil! Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can pray to God for help and confidently trust that he is with us and is powerful enough to save us!

During outside time we were excited to see a robin sitting on its nest!

During small group time used good junk to make a nest!

We also practiced recognizing shapes as we used the shapes to make a bird!

With Mrs. Dohrman, the friends practiced recognizing numbers, counting using one to one correspondence, and writing numbers!

With me, the friends webbed what we know about the birds we chose to show in the bird show!  This is a great way to increase expressive language, provide an opportunity for the children to express what they have learned, and provides insight to what the children know.

Free choice time

Some of the friends were building machines!

"This machine will knock all those little corks over."

"It's a robot bird perch."

Some of the friends worked together to make a large tower.  They applied their knowledge of patterning to create this large tower.

The friends were worried that someone would knock over their tower, so they worked to make signs to warn the other friends.

Counting the corks

"Welcome to the bird show!"

One of the friends practiced recognizing letters and worked to strengthen his fine motor skills with the play dough.

Observing birds

Second outside time

Praise God for a beautiful day!

During second free choice time we noticed geese right by our door!  The friends started making some "scare crows" to scare away the geese.  We discussed how we can change the name to "scare geese."  :) The friends sounded out the words to label their creations.

The friends used the labels from this morning to protect their block creations.

During small group time we played a game in which the friends guess which shape a mouse is hiding under.  This is a fun way to practice shape recognition.

(Thank you Mrs. Andrews for helping with our class this afternoon!)

With Mrs. Prahlow, we made birds out of shapes.

(Thank you Mrs. Prahlow for helping with our class today!)

With me, the friends started making their signs for the bird show.
(Thursday, May 24th at 11:00 is our closing program/bird show.)

During Jesus time we walked to the sanctuary and practiced our song for Sunday.

Please plan to drop your child off in the Kindergarten classroom at 10:15.

(In yesterday's email I had said that we would meet in the Pre-K room, please note the change. :) )

Thank you Mr. Anderson for reading to us in the library today!

Outside time

We saw a duck on the playground!

"Guys!  If we get down he won't see us and get scared."

Free choice time

Observing birds

Our friends have learned that print is tracked from left to right! This is an important concept of print.

The friends worked to level this tall tower.  It led into a discussion of who is taller than the tower and who is shorter than the tower.

Celebrating success of a level tower!

We practiced segmenting words into smaller parts.  This important phonemic awareness skill will help the friends become strong readers!

We also practiced writing letters!  The friends helped me remember that we start letters at the top; silly me!  I forgot!

We also read this fun book.  The friends were excited to see many birds that they recognize in the book.

Second outside time

During small group time we used our senses to predict what is in the jar.  It looks like water, but it smells like vinegar!

We predicted what would happen if we put an egg in the vinegar.  (We discussed that this is not a fertilized egg.)

We will see what it looks like on Monday!
