This morning Mr. Kyle Borcherding led our chapel.  We learned that sometimes we might feel scared, but God is always with us!  He will never leave or forsake us!

After chapel we ran in the gym.

During small group time we made letters with wood pieces.  As we explored the letters, we noticed that all uppercase letters are made up of short and long straight lines as well as big and small curves.   This helps friends learn how to write the letters as it breaks it down into smaller parts. We also discussed the letters and their sounds.

"I noticed you made a letter!  What letter did you make?"

"D!"

"What sound does the D make?"

"The D says.."

We also practiced number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondence as we counted on mats with corn pieces.

Independently, the friends explored the magnetic writing boards.

The friends continued to make letters!

"Oh no! These pieces are too long.  What are we going to do about that?"

Some friends worked together in the blocks.

Other friends created in the creation station.  We encourage the friends to label their drawings.  For example, one of the friends drew a picture of me and her.  I asked her how we could remember who she drew? We discussed labeling pictures.

"My name is Douglas.  What letter do you hear?"

"D!"

"Great!  We can label my picture with a D to remember that it is me."

You can do this at home with your child too!  If you are willing, your child can label various items around your house.  (R for refrigerator, T for table, etc.)

"I have an idea!  What if we used the play doh to make the letters!"

Some of the friends made lap tops with letters and numbers. They then typed on their lap tops. Children's play often originates as a creative reworking of a situation in which they are familiar.

Check out the kindergarten pumpkin parade! It's not too early to think about kindergarten for your child.  We would love if you prayerfully considered Our Shepherd for your child's kindergarten education.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and donations that made our party possible!

Happy Friday!

I hope to see you all here tonight for Trunk or Treat! :)

This morning we had fun dancing in the gym!

We were excited to carve the pumpkin today!

The friends had fun sorting the goop and seeds.  They also described how the pumpkin goop feels.

"It is so wet and cold."

"I think it is slimy."

Thank you for reading to us today Mrs. King!
