Wednesday, September 23

During morning meeting we observed our butterflies.  We noticed that two are still in their chrysalis.  We wondered when they would emerge?

We then played together on the playground.  As the friends explore and run on the playground, they are working their large motor muscles, engaging in cooperative play, refining their coordination, and learning how to regulate their body.  Outdoor play is an important part of our day and a child's development.

We then went to the hill!  Unfortunately I did not take any pictures while we were on the hill.  :(

After snack we observed the butterflies and prepared the grapes to feed them.

Right after we fed the butterflies, we had our Jesus time.  We learned that sometimes it is hard to wait!  But God is always with us in the waiting.

During Jesus time one of the butterflies emerged from its chrysalis!

The friends wanted to watch it closely, so we voted on staying in the classroom or going to the outdoor classroom.  We graphed our voted and compared the results.  In this activity, we are naturally incorporating meaningful writing, counting, and comparing.  We are also incorporating important social skills such as learning that sometimes we do what we want and sometimes we don't.

Inside the friends observed the butterflies.  The classroom was filled with excitement!

"I SEE THE PROBOSCIS!  It is so black and curly!!"

"Look! Look!  There is the antennae!  Right there!"

"Where are its eyes?"

"Are the eyes on the wings?"

Some friends began cutting out their own butterfly wings!

After lunch we practiced writing our names and read books together.  We also explored spatial relationships with pattern blocks.

We then went on our nature walk!  We went back to some of our favorite spots to observe any changes we saw.

"The berries!  They are white and red!  No green!"

"I see a spider!  Do you see it?"

"There's the thorn bush!  It is changing colors."
