Friday, September 25

This morning a friend brought this book for us to read.
Thank you parents for continuing the excitement for our butterfly and moth study at home!

During morning meeting we discussed that we would have to say bye bye butterfly to our butterflies.  We made some rules to keep everyone safe and help our butterflies.  The friends helped write the rules so we wouldn't forget!  Sometimes we need to write notes to remember things.

In this writing experience, we are giving the friends a reason to write.  We want to provide many opportunities for the friends to engage in meaningful writing.

It was then time for us to head to the playground!

We continued exercising our bodies at the hill.

After snack we all gathered to say bye bye butterfly.

We said a prayer to keep our butterflies safe and tank God for them in our classroom!

We noticed that our crinkly wing butterfly had difficulty leaving the ground.  We decided to take him to the flowers in the outdoor classroom.

Bye bye butterfly!

Sadly, two of our butterflies did not survive.  We took some time to observe them.

The one that was coming out of its chrysalis yesterday died.  We observed this butterfly with careful attention.

Some of the friends worked on our butterfly garden.

"We need to be sure that there is a path!"

We also painted butterfly wings with Mrs. D.

More observations

"His wings aren't straight.  They are crinkly too!"

Some friends created binoculars for the butterfly garden.

Making signs for the garden

"This!  This is our butterfly!"

After lunch we went on a short nature walk.  We noticed that the berries are no longer green!  They are white and red!
