Welcome to the first full week of school!

This week during Jesus time we are learning all about how God made people.  He made each one of us, and He knows everything about us.  Our verse for the week is from Isaiah 43:1, "I have called you by name.  You are mine."  I encourage you to practice this verse at home with your children.  :)

After Jesus time we went and enjoyed God's beautiful creation outside!

We then went to the outdoor classroom!

"I made a bridge!"

During small group time we are working on recognizing our names and the letters in our names.   God made each friend unique, therefore success looks different for each friend. Success for some friends is matching upper and lower case letters.  Success for some fiends is recognizing the letters in their name.  Success for some friends is sounding out the letters in their names.  We celebrate all success in our class and challenge/encourage the friends accordingly.

With Mrs. Dohrman, the friends worked to identify their features and represent them in a self- portrait.

We also worked to identify and write numbers for our classroom number line.  The items hanging on the wall are more meaningful for the friends when they have an active part in the creation.

Free choice time

Some friends continued to explore numbers independently.

Other friends expanded their spatial relationship skills as they created with the magnetic tiles.

"These marbles roll far!"

Through play, we explore properties of length, motion, and force!

Writing notes during free choice :)

During afternoon meeting we sang action songs to practice important phonemic awareness skills including rhyming and segmenting.

Second free choice

Look how the friends are collaborating to complete the puzzle!

The friends were excited to hang the number line we worked on this morning.  They independently practiced counting using one to one correspondence. (Attributing one number to one item.) One to one correspondence is an important skill that impacts multiple areas of development including math and literacy.

Some of the friends chose to continue making words in the writing area.

One of the friends sorted the chips into different colors.  Sorting is an important foundational math skill!

Collaborative painting :)
