We started our morning with chapel with our chapel buddies!

Mr. Mark Borcherding, our DCE consultant, let chapel this morning.  He shared with us how we are the light of Christ.  He then showed many items that we use daily that people in other countries do not have.  Our offerings this trimester are going to our partner school in Africa!

We watched a video of some of the students from the school thanking us for the gifts.

The 2nd graders who were not presented with bibles this weekend at church were then presented with their own bible. What a special time for them!  We continue to pray for them, and all students, that the word of the Lord may change our hearts and lives.

Finally, we celebrated July and August baptism birthdays. If you are interested in learning more about baptism, or having your child baptized, please contact me.

After a long chapel service we enjoyed time running and playing outside.

During small group time we extended the lacing beads activity as the friends rolled a number dice, identified the number, and laced that many beads on the string.  This increases fine motor strength, number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondence.

With Mrs. Dohrman the friends drew a picture of what they think Jesus looks like. Tomorrow we will dictate what we know about Jesus.  We will do this every trimester to see how our faith and knowledge of our Savior grows throughout the year.

We then graphed our eye color.  We noticed that two of the lines on the graph are equal!

Free choice time

The friends' creations with the magnetic tiles are becoming more intricate!

"Who wants food?"

The friends observed the spider that we caught yesterday.  They discussed whether the spider was sleeping or dead.  They saw the spider move and noted, "The spider isn't dead!  He moved!"

Learning to write, like any skill at this level, is very developmental and different for each child.  At this level, children write when they have a purpose for their writing.  It is more meaningful for young children when writing happens in the context of their play.  The learning becomes more child-initiated and more authentic.

We enjoy retelling stories!

During afternoon meeting we sang many finger plays and songs to increase phonemic awareness and number sense.

We went to the outdoor classroom this afternoon! We had so much fun digging for bugs and spiders.

We found many roly polys!  This spurred a discussion on where they live and how to find them.

We also found a worm!

Looking for spiders

We found a red house spider.  We discussed that we don't pick up a spider unless an adult says it is okay just to be safe.
