This morning during Jesus time we learned about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.  We learned that we all, like Adam and Eve, make mistakes.  We need a Savior!  God sent Jesus to be our Savior from sin.  Praise God for the gift of salvation!

Outside time

Look how we help each other!

We noticed quite a few spiders on the playground!

We also noticed a spider web!

The friends then saw some ants.

"We are so strong!  Ants don't scare us!"

During small group time we continued to practice writing in our journals.

With Mrs. Dohrman we made a friendship mural for our classroom.  We painted two different colors on the friends' hands and mixed the colors together.  We discussed what colors we made in our mural!

With me, we investigated insects and bugs through books and discussion.  The children are very interested in bugs.  We are working to gauge the children's interest to see if we can sustain a project about bugs.  A project is an in-depth investigation of a topic in which the children are interested.  Projects are defined by real experiences with real items relevant to the children's lives.  The brain is shaped by experiences.  Children learn through experiences. Through project work, we provide authentic experiences for the children to learn.

Many of the friends wondered where bugs live, so we went on a bug hunt after small group time!

The first bug we found was a cricket.

Student - "I think he is dead!"

Mrs. Dougals - "What makes you think it is dead?"

Student - "Well it's not moving or jumping.  It's just laying there."

We put the cricket in our bug jar for further exploration.

More bug findings on our hunt!

During free choice time many of the friends chose to create their on representation of the bugs we found.

"This is the woolly worm.  See the fuzzy top?  It's kind of spiky like the worm."

Others chose to observe the bugs and draw what they saw.

"I'm drawing the cricket.  Look he just moved!"

"He's eating!  He's eating the grass!"

"It eats the grass.  It moves it's mouth like this "CHOMP CHOMP."

"Is the woolly worm dead? I don't see him moving."

Hanging our hard work provides a discussion starter for the friends.

"Did you draw the cricket or the woolly worm?"

"I drew the big cricket.  I drew the small one too, but it was hard to see."

"He's just sitting at the top!"

"I think he is looking right at me."

One of the friends served bugs for dinner in the dramatic play.

"You might not want to eat it.  It's bugs!"

During afternoon meeting we sang the Ants Go Marching.  This song exercises our counting, understanding of what number comes after another, and rhyming!

We took a walk and listened to the crickets chirping.  :)

The closer we got to the shed, the more crickets we heard!

We also noticed a dragonfly!
