The friends already knew what to do as they came to school this morning!

During Jesus time, we learned how Jesus is our friend.  He loves us no matter what!  We read a big book about Jesus' love for us.

Outside time

After we went to the playground, we explored in our outdoor classroom.

During small group time the friends explored other areas of the classroom to help become familiar with the classroom environment.

We explored in the science area.

We also made structures in the blocks!

Finally, the friends enjoyed exploring the manipulative area.

Free choice time

The friends love painting at the easel.

The creation station was a popular choice.  Look how our friends are using strong fine motor skills to manipulate the scissors!

Our loose parts were brought into the kitchen.  The friends used their creative thinking to expand the parts to something else.  According to the updated Bloom's Taxonomy, creative thinking is the highest level of thinking.  As the friends engage in creative thinking, they are also expanding their cognitive capabilities!

"I made hot coffee.  You better blow on it!"

The friends are already practicing social skills.  We use phrases like:
"How many minutes until my turn?"
"Can I have a turn when you are done?"

to resolve social conflicts with one another.  You can practice these phrases with your child at home too!

During afternoon meeting we practiced songs and finger plays to increase our phonemic awareness.  Phonemic awareness is the ability to play with the sounds of language.  Research suggests that strong phonemic awareness skills increase a child's reading readiness and ability.

During second free choice time we continued to build our classroom community and form  relationships with each other.
