Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten 2017-2018

Welcome to Our Shepherd Pre-Kindergarten!

We had a great first day of school!

Each morning the children will work to identify their names and practice writing their name.  This increases pre-reading and writing skills!

After we signed in, we listened to the announcements and began our day with a morning prayer.

We then lined up to go to chapel.

Look at that line!  These friends are already learning our pre-k routines!

We then met up with our 8th grade buddies for chapel.

During chapel, Pastor Lepley shared with us how because of Jesus we lack nothing!  We might "lack"material wants, but we do not lack the most important thing- salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Snack time!

These first few weeks of school we are working on learning the routines of school.  Setting a routine provides a predictable environment for the children.  A predictable environment helps to ease fears and anxieties.  It also helps our classroom run smoothy.  For example, have you ever driven home and once you arrived at home, you don't remember driving there?  It is so routine that you don't even have to think about it; you just do it.  That is how we want the classroom to run.  In this way, the children can focus on more important things!  :)

Outside time

We learned that we do not throw the mulch or go up the slide.  We also learned that we have a lot of fun outside!

Free choice time

We learned how to use the classroom materials and how to clean them up.  We learned that when Mrs. Douglas says, "Freeze your knees!"  we stop and put our hands on our knees because something important is about to be said.

We also learned a fun poem about school.  This poem encourages children to join in with the rhymes.  Rhyming is an important phonemic awareness skills that lays a strong foundation for future reading.

After lunch and quiet time, we went back outside.

During afternoon small group time, we learned how to rotate in groups while working in various areas of the classroom. We practiced "freeze your knees" too!

Second free choice time was filled with cooperative play!

We had a great day and we look forward to another great day tomorrow!
