Welcome back for our first full week of school!

This week during Jesus time we are learning about creation.  We learned that before God made us; He loves us and calls us His own. We learned that God did not throw us together quickly, but He made us with love!

"I have called you by name; you are mine." Isaiah 43:1

I illustrated this for the children with play doh.

(We also learned that God gave me many gifts and talents, but art isn't one of them. ;) )

During small group time we took a look at ourselves in the mirror and drew our self-portrait.  The children discussed what they like about themselves.  This helps to increase a positive self-identity.

The next group created with the play doh.  This strengthens fine motor skills as well as increases creativity.

With me, the friends worked to find the letters in their names.  We discussed how some letters are uppercase and some letters are lowercase.

Outside time

Free choice time

During free choice time, many of the friends watched the geese outside.  This provided a great opportunity for emergent learning.

Our language development was strengthened as we discussed why the geese were outside.

Some of the friends chose to count the geese, increasing their coutning skills.

One of the friends was having difficulty with the puzzle, so other friends offered to help.  Great job showing God's love!

During morning meeting we played a fun rhyming game where we completed the rhyme and erased a part of the person's body.

("There's a bear in my chair brushing his ______.")

We then reviewed the daily schedule.  Learning the daily schedule is important not only because it helps the friends learn the routine of school, but also because it lays a foundation for future learning about time.

We then read this fun book:

After lunch and quiet time, we went back outside to run and move.

Back in the classroom, we practiced finding the letters in our name again.  We discussed the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters as we worked together.

We then created with the play doh.

With Mrs. Zwettler, we chose to add more details to our self-portrait or create a new picture.

During free choice time, the friends continued to develop relationships with each other as they played together. We are working to create our own Pre-K community.
