"And God saw that it was good!"  Genesis 1:10

This week we are learning more about the creation that God made!  We read this big book together and discussed some of the things that God made.

We also read a poem about what God made!

During small group time we strengthened our fine motor skills and explored shapes with geoboards.

With Mrs. Zwettler, the friends painted something that God made.  We will use these paintings later in the week to make a creation mural!

With me, the friends practiced writing their names.

Then, we worked to identify the first letter of their names.  They added their names to our alphabet!

We began classroom jobs this week!  Here a friend is being the dismissal helper.

Classroom jobs provide an opportunity to learn responsibility as well as take ownership of our classroom.

Outside time

Free choice time

The friends are learning to work together.  They are also learning conflict resolution strategies!  You can use these at home too!

"How many minutes until my turn?"

"Can I have a turn?"

"Could we use it together?"

Some of the friends played doctor together.  Thank God that the patient was healed before clean up time!  ;)

Due to the eclipse and the danger of eye damage, we had extra free choice today rather than going outside.

Exploring the rocks

We then went to the kindergarten room and watched live feed of the eclipse.

We read a book with Mrs. Cronauer

We were also extremely careful with our eye protection and each were able to peek out at the eclipse.

(We were extremely cautious.  Each child walked out backwards, head down, with a teacher.  Once the protective eyewear was in place, the teacher held the eyewear on for each child while he/she looked at the eclipse.)

Back in the classroom we finished our free choice time.

The friends were very interested in measuring!  As they measured, they worked to identify numbers and learn how to measure.  These are all foundational math skills!  Because the children initiated this measuring themselves, it is more meaningful to them.  Their brain is more engaged, and therefore they learn more!
