During Jesus time we reviewed the story of the Tower of Babel.

We reviewed our bible verse for the week, "Seek first the kingdom of God." Matthew 6:33

During small group time, the friends worked to make pieces of the Three Little Pigs Story.  These will be in their folder tomorrow for you to cut out and re-tell the story at home with your child.  I encourage you to also stop and ask your child some, "What if..." questions as you re-tell the story.

For example:  "What if the wolf wasn't hungry?"

or

"What if the pigs' houses didn't blow down?"

Independently, the friends built in the blocks.

With Mrs. Helmkamp, the friends problem solved how they could use cotton swabs to make a house. They engaged in creative thinking to problem solve.  According to the updated Bloom's Taxonomy, creative thinking is the highest level thinking skill. As the children engage in creative thinking, they are also engaging in cognitive development.

With me, the friends answered the question, "If you were the pig, what would you use to build your house?" The friends dictated to me their response along with the reason why they chose that building material.

Gym time!

We learned a new game - Mr. Fox Mr. Fox.  This game not only increases large motor development, it also increases one to one correspondence.  One to one correspondence (attributing one number per item, step, etc.) is a foundational skill that will impact the children's literacy and math development.

We then learned where are gym spots are!

We played a fun game called Dead Cow, Alive Cow, and Sleepy Cow.

We then ran laps!

The friends' free choice play has become more collaborative and cooperative.  We want this collaborative and cooperative play to continue to deepen as the year continues.

During morning meeting we answered some "What if..." questions to engage our brains and expand our thinking and vocabulary.

Our alphabet helper helped us review the letters too!

Second outside time

During second small group time we continued to create with the cotton swabs.

We built with the blocks.

We also answered the question, "What would you do if the wolf came to your house?"

Second free choice time

The friends were working so well together!

Many of the friends worked together to build an ark!
