During Jesus time we learned about Noah and the flood that covered the whole earth.  God put a rainbow in the sky to remind us of His promise that He will never again flood the whole earth.

This is a great reminder for us today.  God keeps His promises.  God is faithful.

During small group time the friends worked to make animal masks for when we act out the story of Noah and the flood.

With Mrs. Helmkamp, we practiced recognizing letters and writing them in sand!  We focused on correct formation and starting our letters at the top.

Independently, the friends read books in the classroom library.

With me, we applied our sorting knowledge to decipher which item does not belong in a group of items.

(Can you tell which one does not belong below? :) )

We enjoyed a nice Fall day outside!

Free choice time

Some of the friends wanted to play restaurant.  We are working to deepen and extend their play by helping them take on roles, assign roles, and engage in cooperative play.

During morning meeting we read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons .  This book is helps teach social skills as well as counting and number recognition.

We also practiced phoneme substitution with beginning sounds.  This is an important phonemic awareness skill. Phonemic awareness refers to the ability to play with the sounds of language.  Research shows that children with strong phonemic awareness skills tend to be successful readers.

I encourage you to do this at home with your child too!

What if Douglas didn't start with a D (make d sound)?

What if it started with a M (make M sound).

It wouldn't be D (D sound) -D (D sound) -Douglas, it would be M (M sound) M (M sound) Mouglas!

Second outside time

During second small group time, we applied what we have learned about sorting by deciding what item does not belong.

Oh no!  Our other pictures from small group time were accidentally deleted.  My apologies!

With Mrs. Lipsey, the friends practiced writing letters in sand.

Independently, the friends strengthened their fine motor skills as they created.
