This morning we began our day with a special Ash Wednesday chapel.  Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent.  Lent is a time of reflection on all Jesus has done for us to save us from our sins.  We had the option to have ashes put on our hands, foreheads, or the friends could opt out.

After chapel, morning meeting, and snack, we went to the gym to run and play!

Back in the classroom, we had some free choice time before small groups.

Mrs. Dieckamp helped out in our classroom today!

During small group time we drew what we thought the flower shop would look like.  After our friend trip on Tuesday, we will do this again and compare the two drawings.

Independently, the friends wrote in their journal.

With Mrs. Dieckamp, the friends practiced recognizing beginning sounds of letters.  This is an important phonemic awareness skill that will lay a strong foundation for future reading success.

Second free choice

During second small groups we continued to write in our journals.

We practiced beginning sounds with Mrs. Dieckamp.

With me, we added details to our flower shop drawing.  We labeled the drawing as well.
