Happy Tasty Tuesday!

Before morning meeting, Nora worked to make a star with the pattern blocks.

During morning meeting the friends had fun playing rhyming bridge!

The friends are growing in their rhyming abilities.  Rhyming is an important phonemic awareness skill.  (Phonemic awareness is the ability to play with the sounds of language.)  Research shows that strong phonemic awareness skills are indicators of later successful in reading.

We also estimated how many scoops of manipulatives would fit in the bowl.

How many scoops would you estimate?

During small group time, Mrs. Zwettler worked with the friends to see how many scoops of animals would fit in various containers. The friends then documented each container (either by drawing a picture or working to sound out the word) and how many scoops actually fit in the container.

This activity strengthens awareness of volume, counting, and number writing.

With me, the friends helped to write a Snack Mix recipe.  Each group was able to determine how many scoops of each ingredient that would be included in the snack mix.

We then counted out each scoop.  Each friend took a turn mixing the food ten times.

(The also increases counting.)

We then tasted our mix!  Yum!

Outside time

Second free choice

Our friends love to play school!

Writing is incorporated naturally throughout our free choice play.

Kennedy wrote her own bible!

Elijah made a sign for his friend.

One of the friends made a lily pad for our river!

During Jesus time, we reviewed the story of the disciples meeting Jesus on the road.  We then shouted "Yes!  I believe in Jesus!" after I re-told each part of the story.  We then prayed thanking God for the gift of faith!

During second free choice the friends took turns smelling the different seashells in our nature center.  They thought it was very funny.  :)

Second outside time

During second small group time the friends again estimated how many scoops it would take to fill the various cups and containers.  They had fun filling the big bowl too!

With me, the friends wrote their own recipes.  They chose to draw pictures and label them or work on writing the words for the recipe.
