Welcome back to another week of school!

Our friends were so excited to see each other this morning; we had many things to share!  We took turns sharing our stories with the pointer stick.  We practiced listening and waiting our turn.  We also practiced looking at the speaker while he/she is speaking.  These are important social skills. :)

During Jesus time we learned the true story of the Tower of Babel.  (You can read this story at home with your child in the Bible.  It is found in Genesis 11:1-9). We learned that we need God!

Outside time was a little cooler today.  We ran and played to stay warm.

During small group time we learned how to measure items.  We practiced using the words measure and ruler.  You can use these words at home too!

The friends also made insect words with the letter tiles.  We had a discussion about upper and lower case letters.

"This is an upper case E.  It looks different than the lower case E.  Isn't that silly?"

We practiced our engineering and design skills as we built tall towers with Mrs. Lipsey.

Free choice time

"Let's put these numbers in order.  We have to start with one like when we count."

"Oh!  This ruler can see if we have the numbers the right way."

"I am making the number one with the rocks."

Making a bug hotel out of magnetic tiles

Reading books about bugs

We noticed a page about crickets and wanted to bookmark it for other friends to read since we have crickets in our bug center.  The friends worked hard to write the letters to the word "cricket" and put it in the book to mark the page.

"Beep beep beep.  That's my code!"

"Let's build tall towers."

During morning meeting we played a game that increases language development by responding to "Who, what, and where" questions as well as positional words.  This game also increases recall.

On Mondays we independently put our cot sheets on the cots.  Look how independent we are!

Second free choice

Our friends are tracking print from left to right.  This is an important pre-reading skill.  As you read at home with your child, track the print left to right.  If they have mastered that, begin pointing to each word as you read.

Cooking in the bug hotel

"We mixed red and blue and it made purple!"

Earlier today on the walk inside we found a dead wasp.  The friends wanted to collect it for our bug center.  This afternoon we had a discussion about whether the bug is a wasp or a bee.  We decided to make a graph and ask our friends what they thought it was.
