"Beloved, we are God's children now!" 1 John 3:2

This morning in Jesus time we learned the true story of Sarah and Abraham. God promised that Abraham's descendants would be as many as the stars in the sky.  Abraham and Sarah did not trust God's promise because they were very old.  However, we know that God keeps His promises! Abraham and Sarah had a son named Isaac.

We are God's children.  He loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die and rise again for us!

Outside time

"Look at this hairy spider!"

Our friends love looking for bugs!  They are always excited when they find one.  We are applying what we have learned as we hunt for bugs.

"Is it an insect?"

"I don't know; it's too fast for me to count the legs!"

There was a grasshopper on the playground!

After outside time, student council came and reminded us of the canned food drive.

Outdoor classroom

This morning we also had a fire drill.  The friends did a fantastic job staying quiet and listening to directions!

During small group time we documented how we can differentiate insects and bugs. We practiced letter formation and letter sounds as we wrote.

We then checked our bug tags to see which one is an insect and which one is not.

The friends had fun stamping with bug stamps and using the letter stamps to represent the beginning sound of the bugs.

We strengthened our fine motor skills as we matched numbers and quantities.

Before free choice time we had a discussion on where we should hang our insect sign.  The friends wanted to hang it in two different spots.  We problem solved how we could do that...

"We could make another sign just like it!"

During free choice time the friends went to work copying the sign.

As one of the friends explored, she wondered...

"Is a butterfly an insect?  I can't see the legs."

This is a great opportunity for us to learn and research!  We read a book and found out the answer!

"We are making a bug garage!"

"I am going on a bug hunt"

Some of the friends took the books and finger puppets and started acting out familiar bug stories.  We took the children's lead and changed the kitchen into a puppet theater for the friends to act out familiar stories.  This will provide opportunities for language development, important pre-reading skills, and social development.

"Is it a bug or an insect?"

During afternoon meeting the friends wondered how you can tell if a cricket is a boy or a girl?

They decided to ask each other at free choice time.

It is good for friends do practice the same puzzle, read the same book multiple times, etc.  Practice makes permanent!

"Eight legs. Nope. Not an insect."

"Welcome to the bug show!"

Some of the friends played catching bugs in the classroom.  Play is a creative reworking of scenarios that are familiar to the children.  Searching for bugs and learning about bugs has become so familiar to them that they are acting it out in their play.

"Is there a bug under there? It's dark!  Let's check and see!"

"This butterfly has a straw tongue to drink the nectar."
