"Beloved, we are children of God now!" 1 John 3:2

In Jesus time this morning we reviewed the story of Sarah and Abraham.  They had to wait for a long time to have a son! Our puppet friend Zippy came to visit and told us about a time it was hard for him to be patient.  We talked about times it is hard for us to wait.  We sang a song about praying to God when it is hard to wait!

Outside time

The friends found many more bugs and insects!

A slug!

Outdoor classroom

We found a dead grasshopper in the outdoor classroom.  We took the moment to observe the details of the grasshopper. The friends wondered, "What do grasshoppers eat?"

We hunted for more bugs in our back property.

One of the friends found what she thought was a shell.  We took it back to the classroom for further observation.  As we walked, the friend shouted, "It is coming out of the shell!  It is a snail!"

We observed the snail outside and wondered about the snail.

"What does it eat?"

"Why does it hide?"

"How big is it?"

We added our questions to our wonder web.  A defining feature of project work is that the child's inquiry guides the investigation.  This engages their brains and makes learning more meaningful.  It also fosters further curiosity which will lead to further learning!

I worked with the friends in small groups to observe and draw the snail.  The friends also dictated what they would do if they were a snail.

While I worked with the fiends, Mrs. Dohrman fostered questions in free choice time.

The friends had so many questions!  We took a minute to add them all to our wonder web.  We discussed where we can look for answers to our questions.  One friend said, "We can look in books!"

We then walked down the hall to the library to look for books about bugs and insects.

We found a book about grasshoppers!

As we read the book, we found out that grasshoppers eat plants!

Back in the classroom, the friends looked through the books to see what else they could learn.

During morning meeting we sang a new song to increase social interaction and development.  This also helps us create our own classroom community!

After rest, the friends were looking in the books for answers to their questions about snails.

We released our insects and bugs too.

We loved watching the grasshoppers eating the grass!

Playground fun :)
