This morning we reviewed the story of the Tower of Babel.  We learned that the only way that we can be saved is through faith in Jesus Christ!

On the playground this morning the friends were ready to look for bugs!

You can see all that they have learned through their experiences in the following conversation.

"We need to look in the dark places.  That's where we found so many yesterday."

"Yeah!  Like the muddy places with wet dirt."

"Yeah!  Mrs. Douglas, can you move this rock?"

I did not tell the friends that information.  This is what they have learned through our experiences with bugs.

After the outdoor classroom, the fiends asked if we could collect more bugs.  They are expert bug finders!  We have about 50 bugs in our big bug jar!

Back in the classroom we had a discussion about what we have learned so far, and what we want to do next. Notice how the friends apply what we have learned so far, how we problem solve, and think creatively in our conversation.

"Maybe we could put big rocks outside our door so each day we can turn them over and find more bugs."

"Maybe we could have a bug race.  Like the worm is super slow, but the grasshopper hops and is fast."

"Well if we put dirt under the big rocks, we could keep the bugs in there. But how would they not get out?"

"Well if we put them in a hole with little rocks, maybe they would stay in there?"

"We could have a bug school! They learn about everything that humans learn in bug things. So humans learn a lot of things. Like we learn a lot of things about bugs."

"We can put our bug jar in the bug hotel!"

"We could make a bug store!  We would sell all the things that bugs need - like food, houses, and all that stuff."

"Yeah! But then they need to pass the security guard.  Maybe we could make a list?"

During small group time we capitalized on the firends' interest and ideas about the bugs we've collected, and made a list of the bugs that we have found for the security guard of the bug hotel.

With me, we continued to practice measurement and listed all that we have learned so far.  In our discussion, the friends asked more questions about bugs.  We added these questions to our "What We Wonder About Bugs" list.  These questions will continue to guide our investigation of bugs.

"Do they eat nasty stuff?"

"Are caterpillars bugs?"

The friends also continued to practice letter recognition as they made bugs words.

Making the bug store

During morning meeting we practiced positional words, increased language development, and recall through a game based on the The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We were all so excited to hear the crickets that we found chirping!  We said a thank you prayer to God for allowing us to hear them!

This afternoon we hunted for more bugs!
