This morning we learned the story of Noah and the flood.  We learned that rainbows remind us that God will never flood the whole earth again.  Our God keeps His promises!

Outside time

It was hot outside, but we ran and played nonetheless!

"Look! A spider!"

Outdoor classroom

We found a cricket!  We tried to catch him, but he was too quick.  The friends noticed how big the cricket was!

During small group time we explored the bugs in our bug center.  We dictated what we know about bugs and then wondered about bugs.  These "wonderings" and questions will guide our bug investigation over the next few weeks.  We will tie in learning goals and standards as we investigate the answers to their questions.  Allowing the children's inquiry to guide the investigation allows meaningful learning experiences and fosters the love of learning.

The friends also strengthened their fine motor skills with some play doh.

With Mrs. Dohrman, the friends practiced sorting. We discussed that sorting is when you make groups of things that are alike.  I encourage you to continue this discussion at home with your child.  Practice sorting different items around the house and discuss with your child how they are sorted.

Free choice time

Many friends explored the bug center.  We discussed making a big bug hotel for us to act as bugs in the classroom.

So I gathered some bug boxes and the friends went to work to create the bug hotel.

Some friends chose to make traps to attach to the hotel.

We worked to paint the words "Bug Hotel."  The friends helped determine the beginning sounds of Bug and Hotel!

We incorporated meaningful writing practice as the friends made labels for their traps before attaching them to the hotel.

Second free choice time

Look at our bugs in the hotel!

Cooking for the bugs

We made a sign up sheet for the bug hotel.  This is a great time to engage in meaningful writing practice.

We made a list of the bugs we want to pretend to be in the hotel.

I worked with the friends to write numbers for our September calendar.

We then taped the numbers to our calendar.
