This morning we read the true story of Noah and the Flood. His rainbow reminds us that He will never again send a flood to cover the whole earth. We learned that God keeps His promises!  He promised to send a Savior, and He did!  He sent Jesus to die on the cross and rise again to save us from our sins!

The heat didn't stop us from having a great time outside!

Exploring the mud kitchen in the outdoor classroom.

Working with letters in our outdoor classroom

There are so many natural learning opportunities in our day!  Today two friends were counting their snacks to compare the amount.  They used their knowledge of counting, one to one correspondence, and comparative words!

During small group time we practiced sorting the beads.  We discussed that sorting means making groups of things that are alike.

Independently, the friends created while strengthening their fine motor skills with play doh. They also practiced important social skills as they worked.

With me, the friends practiced letter formation as we made a card for Mr. Kyle Borcherding, our worship director here at Our Shepherd.  We discussed the spaces in between the words we wrote to increase our concepts of print.

The friends then wrote their names on the card and dictated a special message for Mr. Borcherding.

We then delivered the card to Mr. Borcherding.  He is beginning his vicarage (pastoral internship) here this week in addition to his role as worship director.  Keep him and Our Shepherd in your prayers!

During free choice time, we added bugs to our list that we would like to pretend to be in our bug hotel.

Some friends chose to build a bug hotel out of magnetic tiles.

Some of the friends asked if we could make the word cards into name tags.  So we did. :)

"What's your password for the bug hotel?"

"0100"

"You may enter."

During morning meeting we observed a stick bug.  We discussed why it is called a stick bug.

"I didn't know this is a bug!"

"It is!  Look at the antennae!"

"Wow.  It looks like a stick."

"Yeah!"

"That makes the name easy -stick bug - because it looks like a stick!"

(Thank you all for the additions to our bug center!  Keep them coming!  :) )

We then played with mathematical structure.   We found ways to show two, three, four, and five fingers but we used two hands.  This is an easy and beneficial thing to play at home with your child.

Second free choice

"What is your password?"

"Let me write it down."

I worked with the friends individually to add words to our alphabet too!
