We had a fantastic Thursday!

This morning the friends enjoyed playing and creating with the blocks.

Creating with good junk

The friends wanted to use a big good junk box to make a rocket ship.  They wanted to crawl inside the box.  We tested to see how many friends could fit in the box.  We decided that just one friend could fit.  We then wrote "1 Friend Only" on the box as a reminder.

(We are engaging in meaningful writing!)

We worked to tape the box to the metal part of the bulletin board to hold it steady.

We had trouble deciding who could go first in the rocket, so we made a sign up sheet.

Elijah noticed that our sign up sheet was getting full, so he made us another one!

We then had a discussion about how long of a turn each person should have in the rocket.  We decided on three minutes.  We wrote a reminder for that too!

During morning meeting the friends helped point to one of our fingerplay poems.  This poem helps increase phonemic awareness!  (Earlier in the week, I sent home a packet filled with fingerplays, songs, and poems so you could enjoy them with your child at home as well.)

We love to play outside!

We still love spiders!

During small group time we did an observational drawing of the pumpkin.  Observational drawings help children observe and reflect upon what they see. It also beings up discussion about what the children notice.  We discussed what we noticed.

"The stem looks dirty."
"The pumpkin has dirt on it."
"It has bumpy lines."

Once the observational drawings were complete, the friends read their Jack-O-Happy books.

The friends wanted to continue creating from this morning during small group time, so we did!

With Mrs. Zwettler, the friends cut out the faces for their jack-o-lanterns.  They look so good!  Tomorrow we will name and title our pumpkins and hang them in the hallway.  :)

Back outside  :)

Second fre choice

During small group time we acted out our Jack-O-Happy books with Mrs. Lipsey.

We also experimented with rulers and measuring!

The friends then had the choice to create in the creation station or create in the rocket ship area.  :)
