This morning we practiced our songs for when we sing in church on November 11.  We will be singing in the 10:45 service.  Please plan to be there.  If you know your child cannot make it to the service, please let me know.  Thank you!

We then exercised and played in the gym.

During small group time we made letters with wood pieces.  As we explored the letters, we noticed that all uppercase letters are made up of short and long straight lines as well as big and small curves.   This helps friends learn how to write the letters as it breaks it down into smaller parts. We also discussed the letters and their sounds.

Independently, the friends explored the magnetic writing boards.

We also practiced number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondence as we counted on mats with corn pieces.

Today we read a book about a special holiday celebrated in Mexico and other Latin American countries.  We learned that the Day of the Dead, although it sounds scary, is actually a celebration of family members who have died.

Many of the friends chose to practice writing letters.

We explored properties of light and color with the new light table.

We also explored magnetic properties.

Building together increases social skills as well as important spatial relationship skills.

During morning meeting we changed the beginning sound of our names.  This is a fun way to practice important phonemic awareness skills. To read more about phonemic awareness skills, and how you can promote them at home,

This afternoon we practiced our songs for Sunday, November 11 with Mr. Borcherding and the other classes that are singing with us!
