During Jesus time this morning we thanked God for all of the money gifts He has given us! The best gift He gives us is the gift of salvation!

During gym time we engaged in large motor planning as we did various complex moves.

During small group time we explored the concept of composing and decomposing numbers.  We used a ten frame to help the friends organize their explorations and increase one to one correspondence.

The friends also made various emotions.  We had a discussion about what an emotion is.

"Sad is an emotion because you can like feel sad."

"Scared is an emotion because sometimes people feel scared."

"I am going to make crazy.  Wait - is crazy an emotion?"

The friends matched upper and lower case letters to make various words.  We practiced observing the space between name cards that have two words.  This helps us recognize an important concept of print!

Exploring emotions

"What does this say?"

Children at this age will often write strings of letters and ask what it says.  This is an appropriate level of development.  It shows that they understand that words are made up of letters and that print carries meaning.  These are important foundational pre-reading skills.

"We are watching a movie."

As you read at home with your children, model tracking print from left to right.  This is another important concept of print.  The friends often do this while they read in the classroom.  If your child has mastered tracking print from left to right, start pointing to one word at a time as you read together.

"Three and two make five!"
