Welcome back!  I pray that Fall Break was a relaxing and enjoyable time for you and your family!

This morning we observed a pumpkin.  The friends shared their observations and questions about pumpkins.

"It is heavy!"

"Can we make a face?"

"Can we make pumpkin pie?"

"I think it is seven feet!"

We will use these observations and questions to guide our learning experiences throughout the next few weeks.

We then went to the gym!

After snack we explored our new classroom set up.  Some friends chose to work in the pumpkin patch.  There are so many learning opportunities in our dramatic play pumpkin patch!  The friends are not only learning important social skills, but they are also incorporating meaningful math and writing skills!

"I need four dollars please."

"What is the price?  I will write it down."

"We need a credit card for the pumpkin patch!"

The friends then explored number tiles and pumpkins!  This open ended activity allows for the friends to engage in creative thinking and naturally invites friends to incorporate some foundational math skills.   We added a book about five pumpkins to invite the friends to incorporate literacy skills as well.

The friends used "good junk" to see if they could make a gate for the pumpkins.  This engages engineering and design skills as well as problem solving and persistence!

Working in the blocks

The friends were invited to write letters in sand!  The sand increases the experience for the friends by engaging the sense of touch!  As the friends wrote the letters we practiced recognizing letters and their sounds.

How does your pumpkin feel?

"My pumpkin is sad because he is going to be in a pie."

"My pumpkin is happy!"

During Jesus time we learned the true story of baby Moses in the river.  We learned that God always takes care of us!  He sent Jesus to be our Savior through His death and resurrection!

After lunch time we sorted our magnetic letters.

We read books too!

We then went on a letter hunt!  The friends practiced writing the letters that they saw.  We discussed the sounds of the letters and what words begin with that sound.
