Wednesday, October 21

This morning as we were reading this book the friends noticed that Farmer Brown, a character in the book, did not like Halloween.  This sparked a discussion between the friends to see who likes Halloween.  This was a great opportunity to incorporate a class survey!

We surveyed our friends and counted the results.

During outside time the friends were excited to see some worms on the playground!

Back in the classroom the friends tried out new designs as they created gates.  They drew representations of their designs as well!

"Be sure that this is stabilized or it will fall!"

The friends wanted to do their own survey.

Do you like pumpkins?

As they survey, the friends are refining their visual discrimination skills, using one to one correspondence as they make one mark for each response, using foundational reading skills as they determine which side to record the response, engaging in meaningful writing practice, and refining their fine motor skills.  Phew!  So much learning happens in our classroom!

We love to read!  Although the friends cannot read conventionally yet, they are still reading as they use their knowledge of print orientation and the context clues from the pictures to retell the story.

"Which is heavier?"

We were so thankful to have Ms. Lila Mattick, our Admissions Director's daughter, come visit our classroom!  She plans to be a teacher in a few years too!
