Wednesday, October 28

This morning the friends engaged in a lively discussion about how many days until Halloween.  They each shared their ideas, thoughts, and opinions while allowing others to do the same. This conversation was an opportunity for us to make our own countdown in the classroom. The friends helped me write the words for our countdown and we practiced how to form the letters as well as the sounds that they make.

We also used finger spaces between words.

We then read the story of God parting the Red Sea for the Israelites.  We echoed "With God, all things are possible!"  The fact that God parted the sea is amazing.  What is even more amazing is that God sent Jesus to die on the cross and rise again to save us from our sins.  Praise God for His free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ!

Outside time

"Look!  I think it's a dead snake!"

"But it's moving.  It's not dead."

Back in the classroom we made a graph to vote how we should carve our pumpkin.

Each friend voted during free choice time and . . .

. . . they discussed the results!

"It's not equal."

"Add some more to the other side.  Be careful!  Not too many!"

Many friends chose to create!  As they create, the friends are expressing themselves and strengthening their fine motor skills.

We also worked to measure and compare the pumpkins.  The friends measured with various items and then wrote the corresponding number.  In this activity the friends are using one to one correspondence, recognizing numbers, writing numbers, using comparative words, and engaging in conversations with their friends.

Look at our intricate block creations!  As the friends create in the blocks they are learning foundational math skills.  Playing with blocks can increase the ability to understand sizes, shapes and patterns. Block play can also lead to increased skills in counting, adding, subtracting and sorting.

"I need your money for the pumpkin."
