Happy Friday!

Each morning we greet our friends by clapping the syllables in their names.  This helps increase phonemic awareness which is the ability to play with the sounds of language.  Research shows that children with strong phonemic awareness skills tend to be strong readers!

Today we counted the syllables and recorded how many friends had different numbers of syllables.  We then compared the results.

Of course we sang "Hey it's a good day!" too!

As we explore more about music, I have documented some of the words that we have discussed and / or have come up in  our conversations and books. We will use these as a basis for our word work throughout our project!

Look how many questions we have about music!

This morning we read this book that introduces us to new instruments and has many rhyming words!

Thank you for the sweet gift of hot hands for my cold southern grown hands!  I am so blessed by your kindness and thoughtfulness!

After snack we read this book that also introduced us to different instruments as well as many rhyming words.

During free choice / work time the friends worked to write books, music words, and compose music.

They also used their creative thinking skills to make instruments out of good junk!

The band room was filled with music!

The friends continued to refine their tower design from yesterday.

During Jesus time we read about how God provided for the Israelites in the desert even when they were not thankful.  Their unkind words and lack of thankfulness did not affect God's love!  We discussed how we all sin, and that no matter what God loves us!  There is nothing we can do that will stop His love for us!

After lunch we ventured out to the music garden!

On the way back, we played chase.  The friends were laughing so hard!  It brought joy to my heart.  :)
