Friday, August 21

Wow!  Our first week of school is in the books.  The friends have done a fantastic job learning our routines and procedures.  Looking into next week, we will continue to focus on routines and procedures while incorporating a few open-ended invitations for the friends to explore.

We look for our names and hang our backpacks.

When we get ready to go outside, we put our masks in our drawers and put our hats on our head.

Outdoor classroom work

We were so excited to find a large flower in our garden!

"It's a pumpkin flower!"

During quiet reading time, we read this book.  We had fun saying the chorus of the book together, "Caps! Caps for sale! Fifty cents a cap!"

More outdoor classroom work

We place invitations for the friends to write in various places and see how they use print and language to enhance their play.

"This is my family!  They like the garden."

"Let's make soup together!"

After lunch we explored in our outdoor small groups.

During our nature walk we have many rich discussions and the friends ask many open ended questions.  As the year progresses, we will use this time to journal / document our observations, questions, and conversations that can be used to guide further learning.

"Do bugs talk?"

"Where are the bugs?  I can hear them, but I can't see them."

"Why are the berries white and green?"

Running to the music garden

"JESUS!"

On the way back, the friends and I sang "Jesus Loves Me" and "Jesus in the Morning."
I reminded the friends that Jesus loves them so much that He died on the cross and rose again!
