During Jesus time we learned about the story of Jesus healing Jairus's daughter.  We also practiced our song for when we sing in church on January 21st.  :)

During small group time we strengthened our fine motor skills with the play dough.

With Mrs. Zwettler we played a parking lot beginning sounds game to practice identifying the beginning sounds of words.

With me, the friends graphed what kind of car they had.  One of the friends noticed that the kind of car he has is not on the graph, so we worked to add it to the graph!

The friends practiced writing their names on the graph and even some pre-reading skills.

Me: "What kind of car do you have?"

Child: "Van"

Me: "Where do you see van written here on the graph?"

Child: points to the word van

Me: "Great!  How did you know that says van?"

Child: "Because it starts with a V!"

During free choice time we added to our dramatic play about cars.   We added "role" cards to help the friends continue to assign and adhere to roles in their play.

The receptionist made appointments.

We had many opportunities for meaningful writing practice!

Writing down names and phone numbers

Making driver's licenses

The mechanics worked on the cars.

We also started exploring ramps with the marble works!

Some of the friends wanted to paint the cars.

Some of the friends wanted to make a stop light.

Then they painted a stop sign too.

Exploring small cars

During morning meeting, we read this book!

After reading the title, we reviewed that titles give us a clue to what the book is about.  Based on the title and cover of the book, we predicted what the book would be about.

"Probably Frosty the snowman."

"I think it is about a big snowman."

"The snowman comes alive at night at ice skates."

After reading the book, we reviewed parts of the story and discussed if our predictions were correct or not.  You can do this at home too to increase story comprehension (a valuable pre-reading skill!)

Second free choice

Explore on the floor

During free choice we made signs for the gas station!

During small group time the friends worked with Mrs. Helmkamp on patterning.

With Mrs. Zwettler, the friends practice number recognition, one to one correspondence, and counting with a snowman soup game!

With me, the friends practiced rhyming, an important phonemic awareness skill.
