This morning we learned the story of Moses in the basket.  We leaned that God had a plan for Moses, and God has a plan for us too!

During small group time we discussed living and non-living things.   We cut out pictures of various items, and we made predictions as to whether those items are living or non-living.

Independently the friends explored the magnets.

They also read books!

With me we worked to answer our question from last week - How far will the slinky roll?

The friends learned about measurement and how we have to start at the number 1 when we measure.  They practiced identifying and writing numbers.  They also collaborated to use the measuring tape!

After small group time, we discussed that living things can grow.  We brainstormed some things that grow.  (Bears, flowers, trees, people.). We then wondered if robots grow?  The friends decided they did not grow, and therefore robots are non-living things.

We read this book about bears growing.

We discussed how fog is really a low hanging cloud, and the friends were excited to play in the cloud this morning!

During free choice time our creative thinking was engaged!  The friends got straight to work designing and creating together!

We made labels for the robots.  Incorporating writing into our play engages the children's brains and it is more meaningful to them.

One of the friends used the aluminum foil to make robot boats! We will have to see if these boats float!

Mrs. Zwettler and I did not design these.  We helped rip tape and hold things together, but the following robots are completely your children's creations.  We did ask questions to prompt their thinking.

"What are those used for?"

"What is your robot programmed to do?"

"What parts does he need to do that job?"

"Can you make a label for him so we don't forget?"

We are learning more letters each and every day!  As you are driving in your car, point out the various signs to your child and ask if he/she recognizes any letters.  :)

Second outside time

During second small groups we predicted if various items would roll.  We then tested our predictions.

"It rolls because it is smooth!"

"It rolls because it is like a circle."

We discussed the word circular too!

We practiced measuring with Mrs. Zwettler.

We also created in the blocks.

Second free choice

The friends have been very interested in writing words!  This is a great way to learn important writing and literacy skills naturally through play.

During goodbye time we read this book. This is a great book for identifying rhymes and increasing rhyming skills.
