Welcome back!  I pray that you all had a restful Christmas and New Year!

During Jesus time today we learned that Jesus is the only human who has never made a bad choice.  He lived a perfect life for us!  He died and rose again for us!

After Jesus time we discussed what the friends want to learn about next.  This is one way we can gauge the friends' interest.  Child interest is imperative during a Project; it is what defines projects from others ways to learn.

Wow!  What a beautiful day outside.

Outdoor classroom explorations

During small group time the friends drew a picture of their favorite part of Christmas break.

They also explored in the new house dramatic play.

With me, the friends discussed what they wanted to learn about and why.  This helps the friends develop deep thinking skills as well as encourage language development.

Free choice time

Before second free choice, the friends worked on a play plan before they played.

What is a play plan?
Before dismissing for free choice time, the friends make a plan of what they are going to play.  They record this plan through drawings, dictations, and developmentally appropriate writing. The play plan gives children a reason to write, honors the children’s play, and gives insight as to what the children enjoy doing in the classroom.

Some of the skills and dispositions strengthened through the play plan include:

  • Holding a writing utensil
  • Drawing for a purpose
  • Writing for a purpose
  • Writing letters
  • Beginning sounds
  • Deepening the understanding that print carries meaning
  • Executive function skills

Following our plans
