God is with you wherever you go!" Joshua 1:9

During Jesus time this morning we learned that sometimes we are scared.  Even when scary things happen, we can be sure that Jesus is always with us!

Gym Time :)

During small group time we explored pictures of houses and books about houses.  The friends told me all that they know about houses. This helps us identify what the children know about houses and also engages their experiences with houses to prepare for our investigation. We will do this again during the project to assess how much we have learned.

With Mrs. Dohrman the friends drew a picture of their house.  Just as with the dictation, we will do this again in the project as a comparison for us to see how much the fiends have learned.

Independently, the friends explored in the dramatic play.

Free choice time

Exploring the properties of light at the light table

The friends had so much fun engaging in creative play scenarios.  Free choice play is so important for children.  It allows them time to make sense of their world, expand their language skills, practice important social skills, develop executive function skills, and gives opportunity to put into practice academic skills in a meaningful way.

"The frog is chasing us!"

"But we can't run in the classroom...so we need to walk away from the frog."

The above scenario shows a strong application of self-regulation which is an important part of executive function skills.

Building houses

Some of the friends wrote books!

The play scenario changed and suddenly all of the friends in the house were sick!  Thank goodness there were lots of "moms" "dads" and "doctors" to care for the sick children. :)

After planning our play, the friends acted out their plan.
