This morning we reviewed the story of the angels coming to the shepherds to announce our Savior's birth!

Outside time

"I wonder what these little holes are for?"

It is important to allow time for children to express wonder and curiosity as this is what guides children's learning.

If your child does not ask many questions, model it for them.

For example, while you are driving you might notice many birds on the electric lines.  Wonder out loud, "I wonder why those birds are sitting there?"

Or when you are in the grocery you notice a head of lettuce that has brown spots.  Wonder out loud, "What happened to that lettuce?  Why is it brown?"

The more we draw children's attention to details and model inquiry for them, the more they will do the same.

During small group time the friends continued to work on their marshmallow and toothpick stable.

They created stables in the legos

We also wrote thank you cards for the yummy donuts today!

During free choice time we made a book of activities we like to do at school.  The goal of this book is to draw students' attention to the written print.  As you read with your child, track the print from left to right.  If your child has mastered this skill, begin tracking the print word for word.

Another way you can encourage pre-reading skills at home is to read the same book multiple times.  Short books with predictable text (Brown Bear Brown Bear is a great one) will help encourage your child to put meaning to the familiar print.

During afternoon free choice our friends were very motivated to write books!
