During Jesus time we read a book that tells the story of Jesus' birth!

Yesterday in small group time we sorted the pom pom balls by size.  We used comparative words yesterday as we sorted.  Today we observed the size of the differences pom pom balls and estimated how many pom pom balls would fit in the circle.  Each friend estimated how many would fit, and then we counted it out.

"These are small.  I need to think of a big number to guess."

At the end of small group time we discussed what we noticed in our experiment.

"The big ones had less."

"The little pom pom balls needed more because they are little."

(As I wrote the children's thoughts down, many of the friends noticed the space in between the words I was writing.  This is an important concept of print that will lay a strong foundation for future reading.)

The friends worked to increase letter recognition and upper and lower case letter matching as they made Christmas words. They helped each other too!

"I can't find this letter."

"Which one is it?"

"This one." (Points to a G)

"Oh - that's a G.  Let me help you find it!"

In our community of learners here in Pre-K, the friends help each other!  This is a skill we want to foster as the children grow and develop.

With Mrs. Zwettler we played the mystery. mitten game!  We practiced recognizing letters, letter sounds, beginning sounds of words, and final sounds of words as we played!

The friends explored spatial relationships as they created with the Christmas pattern blocks.

We love the wonder window!

As the friends read together, they worked to identify the spaces between the words.  One of the friends even worked to count the words on the page!

Gift making

Through play, the friends are exploring concepts of measurement and volume.

"Two of these scoops fit in the bucket!"

During morning meeting we practiced comparing numbers when presented as numerals.  The number with more ate the number with less!

Before gym time we went and observed the beautiful nativity scene in the Narthex!

During small group time we worked on our individual nativity scenes.

We explored spatial relationships with the pattern blocks.

We practiced letter recognition and beginning sounds as we made words with Mrs. Lipsey.

With me, we played mystery mitten!
