Welcome back to school!  I am so excited to be together again.

We want to welcome Mrs. Dieckamp to our class!  We are happy that she is here!

This week we will learn the Bible verse below as we learned the true story of the wise men visiting Jesus.

We began our day as usual by washing our hands and writing our names.

After moving prayer and praise and morning meeting, we went to the gym.

Please please please be sure that your child has a coat, hat, and gloves each day.  Thank you!

The friends worked together to set up and knock down bowling pins. We incorporated meaningful math as the friends worked to be sure that two teams had the same amount of pins.

During morning meeting we read a book by the author Mo Willema titled There is a Bird on My Head.  At the end of the book, the birds moved to the pig's head!  The friends discussed ways that the pig could get the birds off of his head.  During small group time, the friends drew pictures of their ideas.  They also worked to write their thoughts!

The friends also explored subitizing with the dominoes.  (Subitizing is the ability to see how many in a group without needing to count.)  We celebrate all levels of success in our class!  Success for some friends is matching like sets.  Success for other friends is counting the dots in a set.  Success for some friends is identifying how many in a set.  Success for some friends is adding the two sides of the dominoes to make a number story.  We use open ended materials to support all levels of success!

With Mrs. Dieckamp, the friends practiced making words.

"I want to make my name!"

"I want to make your name.  What are the letters?"

Spring the letters once done using them.

The friends were excited to explore the doctor / vet items during free choice time.

The friends enjoyed exploring the x-rays.  This provided an opportunity to expand our vocabulary.  I introduced words such as bones, spine, joint, and x-ray as we played together.
