We are excited for another great week of school!

While we were outside today we noticed the birds singing.  What a beautiful sound! We are all looking forward to Spring.

During small group time we explored letters and their sounds.  Every child is unique and therefore success for each child is unique.  Success for some children is identifying the shapes in the letters. ("This letter has lines but no curves!") Success for some children is identifying the letter. ("This is the letter P.") Success for some children is identifying the sound the letters make.  Success for some children is putting the sounds of the letters together to make words.

With Mrs. Lipsey, the friends continued to collaborate and problem solve to build the stairs and cabinets for the house.

After small group time we continued to play with the sounds of language.  This is called phonemic awareness. Research shows that children who have strong phonemic awareness skills tend to be strong readers later.

Free choice time

Look at the stairs the friends created!

Some of the friends chose to sort letters by uppercase and lowercase.  :)

Some friends chose to continue to work on the cabinets.

"This is my mama."

"We are making books about words."

Playing in the house we created.  The friends' play scenarios are becoming deep and rich as they sign roles and plan their play!

One of the friends graphed how everyone was feeling.

"Are you sad or happy?"

"I made a picture for us to hang in the house."

"I wrote noc!"

Making words together

During Jesus time we learned about tax collectors in the Bible.  We learned that they were not very kind.  They stole and lied.  Jesus asked one of the tax collectors,  named Zaccheaus, to eat lunch together.  Jesus came to save sinners!  Because of Jesus Christ, we have the gift of salvation through His death and resurrection!
