We had another great day in Pre-K!

Block play increases foundational math skills as well as problem solving skills!

We love playing together!  The friends are learning strategies to solve their social problems independently.

Some of the phrases we teach the children to help solve social problems include:

"Can I have a turn when you're done?"
"How many minutes until my turn?"

We love reading books together!

The friends love to make cards and letters for our friends and family!  The children are refining their fine motor skills, understanding that print carries meaning, and having fun!

Elijah, our attendance helper this week, led us in our alphabet today!

Outdoor play is not only a great time for the children to engage in large motor development, but also a great time to practice social skills!

One of the students in the older grades brought a corn spider for us to observe!

During small group time we observed the spider and wrote down our observations and wonderings.

We are capitalizing on the children's interest and inquiry in spiders to create meaningful learning scenarios for the children throughout the Spider Project.

We played Hi, Ho, Cherry-O in teams with Mrs. Zwettler to practice counting and collaboration.

As stated yesterday, the children returned to their creations at the creation station.  We are engaging in creative thinking!  (We are also learning how to use our school materials responsibly. :) )

Before Jesus time the friends noticed a spider right outside our window!  He was spinning a web!  It was fun to watch!

During Jesus time we learned that God is perfect, and He made His creation perfect.  We sang a silly song about the Hippos that God created too.  :)

After goodbye/lunch and quiet time, we went back outside to play.

During second free choice time some of the friends explored and created in the blocks.

Other friends cooke din the kitchen and made delicious recipes!

I asked the friends to write down their recipes for me so I could recreate the meal at home. This was an opportunity to engage in meaningful writing practice!

Before small group time we discussed how to be responsible with our things from our creation station.

During second small group time the friends played a rhyming game with Mrs. Lipsey.

They then strengthened their fine motor skills as they created with play dough.

Finally, the friends observed the corn spider one more time.  (He was returning to his home this evening.)

We added our observations and wonderings (questions) to our own What I Wonder about Spiders Web and our Corn Spider Observation web.

We look forward to another great day tomorrow!
