Our last day of school is Friday, May 26th.  (I can't believe the end of the school year is almost here!)   School for all pre-k students will end at 11:30 on that day.  (Extended care is available at 11:30 for those who need it.)  We will have a special closing program/ service at 11:00 on Friday, May 26th.  All parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. are invited to attend.

Happy National Day of prayer!

This morning the whole school gathered in the gym to begin our day together in prayer.

Here is our class and the kindergarten class waiting for the rest of the school to come into the gym.

After the pledge of allegiance, Pastor Lepley and Pastor Matt led the school in prayer.

Back in the classroom, Dominick was our calendar helper today!

During small group time we practiced recognizing letters and their sounds as we made letter s'mores.

Independently the friends picked a piece of paper with a number on it.  They identified the number and worked to use hole punchers to punch the corresponding quantity.  This strengthens our fine motor skills, number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondence.

With Mrs. Lipsey, the friends worked to make their own sequencing cards using a story from their own experience.

Gym time!

During free choice time the friends had many opportunities to practice positive conflict resolution.

When the friends approached me or Mrs. Lipsey with a problem, we handed the problem back to them asking, "Hmm- how could you solve that problem."

If they do not know how to solve the problem, we offer choices to help them learn how to solve the problem.  For example:

"Some friends choose to walk away and some friends choose to tell a friend that hurt their feelings.  You're a smart kid; you'll figure it out."

This enables the children to solve their own problems as well as affirms that they are smart, strong, and capable.

When we solve children's problems for them, rather than equipping them to solve their own problems, we are saying to them, "You can't do it."  We definitely don't want to do that!  Rather we want to equip and enable children to solve their own problems.

Second free choice

Many of the friends "solved mysteries" as they hid some classroom items and searched to find them.  :)

Levi and Olivia acted out Jesus' resurrection and the two men on the road to Galilee

Creation station

During second small group time we continued to work on letters and their sounds by making letter/sound s'mores.

The friends also explored rocks, sand, and water.

With Mrs. Lipsey the friends made s'mores by matching numbers and their quantities.
